just plain surprised
I got an announcement email the other day from Just Plain Folks, a community of people in the music industry who want to work together to survive in this difficult business. Seems that it has gotten pretty popular with over 40,000 members currently. In any case, the email began something like this:
"After 13+ months of work, we are excited to announce the 2006 Just Plain Folks Music Awards nominations are now posted on our website. After receiving 25,500 albums and 350,000 songs from over 100 countries and territories, we've whittled it all down to nominees in 81 Album genres/categories and 67 Song genres/categories (as well as 4 Video and 1 Lyric categories). Nominees come from over 70 different countries and territories around the world."
I had completely forgotten that I asked CD Baby to enter me in this competition something like a year ago, but now I'm glad I did, as 'Predictable?' has been nominated in the "Experimental Song" Category, and 'words and voices' has been nominated in the "Experimental Album" category. You can check out all the nominations here:
It feels pretty good that people I have never met and who have no reason to like or dislike my music have found it good enough for a nomination of this sort. Let's hope for the best when they decide the winners!
